Kids' Election

“The vote is the most powerful instrument ever devised by man for breaking down injustice and destroying the terrible walls which imprison men because they are different from other men.”
–President Lyndon B. Johnson

Every four years, the Academic Booster Club offers an invaluable lesson in democracy and citizenship to students under the age of 18 by sponsoring a kids’ presidential election. Normally held at an indoor location complete with realistic registration tables and voting booths, in 2020 for social-distancing and safety purposes we held it outside at the Nutley Farmers Market on Sunday, October 25th. We also allowed children to vote by mail!

Here are the results!

Out of 95 votes cast, 73 (77%) went to Democratic candidate Joe Biden and 22 votes (23%) went to Republican candidate Donald Trump. Every child who participated in the in-person voting process got to sign into our voter registry book, cast a secret ballot, and take home an American flag pin. We hope everyone enjoyed the chance to see what voting is like!
